GAA+, the official streaming home of Gaelic games, is rolling out a major refresh of its apps across every major platform, powered by Simplestream. The upgrade brings a faster, more modern viewing experience to fans, alongside a significant step forward on accessibility.

The new-generation apps, that are built on REACT framework, are quicker to load, easier to navigate and built around a full-screen video-led homepage, similar to the experience fans already know from other major streaming services. Search has also been overhauled, with real-time and predictive results making it simpler for fans to find the match or highlight they're after.

Alongside the redesign, Simplestream has delivered the first phase of accessibility improvements to GAA+'s apps, including screen reader support across navigation and content, voice guidance for non-visible titles, and support for subtitles and audio description where supplied. An accessibility statement has also been added within the app settings. The work forms part of a wider programme of accessibility improvements to the service

Dan Finch, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Simplestream, said: “GAA+ has been a brilliant long-term partner, and this upgrade shows how much we can achieve together when we keep pushing the platform forward. Getting accessibility right matters to us, and this is just the first phase of that work.”

Noel Quinn, Head of GAA+, commented: “Gaelic games are for all, and we’re delighted to be improving the accessibility of the GAA+ service with the help of our partner Simplestream. Customer feedback has guided our approach, and our new apps and launch of live stream subtitles are a big step forward for the service.”

The new apps are rolling out now across iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Samsung and LG smart TVs, with further accessibility functionality planned throughout the partnership.

This latest project follows similar work Simplestream has recently delivered across multiple broadcast verticals and regions.
