Simplestream enters alliance with Globecast, enhances Sports Video Platform

The new alliance also reveals the full revamp of Simplestream's Sports Video Platform, the ideal choice to distribute live and on demand sports content, direct-to-consumer.

London, 30/08/2023 - Simplestream is thrilled to announce a new business alliance with Globecast, the leading broadcast, media and entertainment managed services platform provider.

Together with the new collaboration, Simplestream also reveals a full revamp to its Sports Video Platform solution, the ideal choice for sports properties, rights owners, and rights holders to distribute live and on-demand sports content – across multiple platforms and devices – direct-to-consumer. Simplestream’s Sports Video Platform erases the barriers to entry associated with complex infrastructures to deliver reliable, scalable, and monetisable streaming video services. With a proprietary, out-of-the-box solution built and refined over a decade of continuous research and development, the Sports Video Platform brings the unique advantage of a quick to deploy framework that lowers the technical complexities of over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

Globecast plays a key role in providing the fully managed services for production, ingest, and encoding workflows, as well as eyes-on support, which encompasses a 24/7 service desk with instant Slack and telephone support during live events. Furthermore, the alliance extends to live channel acquisition from satellite, leveraging a global network of facilities and meeting budget-related demands among customers thanks to different levels of failover.

By actively collaborating in delivering the Sports Video Platform for engaging experiences to sports fans all over the world, Simplestream and Globecast are set to respond to the need for sports properties of any size to diversify their monetization streams and tap new audiences to reach new growth milestones. The solution can be enhanced with optional support for multiple camera angles, in-game statistics, on-screen overlays, and in-game betting.

The collaboration between Simplestream and Globecast kicked-off with the launch of the GAAGO - the Gaelic Athletic Association and Irish broadcaster RTÉ sports subscription channel - suite of OTT services earlier in 2023. With the addition of another brand to the portfolio of projects by the beginning of the forthcoming sport season, and together with Simplestream’s existing sports offerings, the Sports Video Platform will power over 5,000 live events in the next 12 months, with a reach of millions of users, across multiple platforms and devices, globally.

Commenting on the strategic alliance, Simplestream’s Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, Lewis Arthur, said:

In a highly complex and diversified sports rights ecosystem, it’s paramount for all sports properties to rethink their approach to content distribution, often surfacing the direct-to-consumer world. Our Sports App Platform is the go-to solution for any sports brand looking to go to market in a matter of weeks, thanks to the flexibility of a solution that can count on a reliable and scalable infrastructure, now made stronger than ever before by the additional layers of services provided by Globecast.

Steve MacMurray, Digital Media Development Manager, Globecast, highlighted:

We’re pleased to extend our alliance with Simplestream following our very successful initial collaboration on the GAAGO OTT service. The sports market is incredibly vibrant, with the demand for content when people want it, where they want it, consistently growing. The combination of our skillsets creates a powerful suite of services and we’re already working on future initiatives.

Simplestream will be attending the main sports business-focused conferences and trade shows this October and November. Get in touch now, and book a time slot with our team to discuss your next project.
