FIRESIDE CHAT

UNLEASHING THE POWER OF NEWS: GB NEWS, SIMPLESTREAM, AND A JOURNEY OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

📍 The BaM Live! Stage, 8.F54
🗓 Friday 9th September, 4:00 pm CET

GB News launched in 2020 with the objective to represent a new voice in the British news landscape, bringing together the traditional means of television and digital platforms – including rapid, widespread diffusion throughout a plethora of different devices. To achieve such ambitious results, the news channel needed to rely on a leading technology partner, able to create an ecosystem of applications and functionalities to sustain a growing volume of traffic. Simplestream was chosen to implement a full set of OTT services built upon a strong infrastructure that responded to the needs of quicker time-to-market, scalability, and opportunities for enhanced monetisation through advertising.

In this fireside chat, moderated by Stan Moote, IABM's CTO, Dan Finch, Simplestream’s CCO & Co-Founder, dissects the digital transformation journey embarked on by the news channel, analysing the intricacies of a challenging project. The objective is to highlight the key aspect of a case study that aims to set a precedent for the next generation of news delivery in the convergence between traditional, linear distribution, and multiple digital touch points.

FROM SVOD TO MULTI-DIMENSIONAL BUSINESS MODELS

📍 Hall 5 - Content Everywhere Stage
🗓 Sunday 11th September, 10:30 am CET

OTT media businesses need to invest heavily in content, technology and marketing to standout and survive in a highly competitive market. To turn a profit, do these businesses need to start looking beyond one dimensional business models and consider Average Cost Per User (ACPU) as well as Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). This session will explore alternative business models to SVOD and the increasing important role of customer retention practices and the technologies behind them.

Ashley Horne (Technical Director at Simplestream), Gilles Domartini (CEO & Founder at Cleeng), and Manish Sihna (VP & Business Head, OTT Solutions & Services at TO THE NEW) will discuss with nScreenMedia's Colin Dixon how VOD2Live solutions – that create playlists from on-demand content – can be used to spin up low-cost linear channels at scale to evaluate the potential of FAST channels and advertising-based monetisation models. The use of AI analysis of consumer behaviour to significantly improve churn prediction will also be discussed.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
