The award celebrates the most impressive innovations in TV content creation, distribution and technology over the past year. TVPlayer Plus will be showcased by Simplestream at IBC (Amsterdam, 9-13 September, stand 14.G11).
The nomination recognises the market impact of Simplestream’s Cloud TV platform as an outstanding digital video solution. Launched in December 2013, TVPlayer is one of the fastest growing consumer streaming platforms that hosts 85+ free-to-air channels across multiple devices through a single app to over 600,000 unique viewers each week. TVPlayer Plus was deployed as a low-cost monthly subscription service extension in October 2015, providing users with a greater range of content through a seamlessly personalised user experience. Additional key additions include:
- A new model for pay-TV in the UK – a contract-free, low-cost £4.99 per month subscription product that offers high-quality live and catch-up premium TV content
- Twenty four pay-TV channels including channels like Discovery, TLC, Lifetime, History, Crime & Investigation, National Geographic, UKTV Gold, Alibi, Watch, Sony Movies and Cartoon Network
- A user interface that seamlessly integrates both paid and free live and catchup subscriptions within a single app accessible via any connected device, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV
- Back-end freemium subscription model that manages the user experience, marketing, advertising, consumer data, metadata and subscription models across broadcast and OTT through a single unified workflow
TVPlayer CEO and Founder Adam Smith commented: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for a Content Innovation Award, especially amongst a group full of exceptional innovators and projects. This nomination emphasises the importance of capturing the best of both new and traditional media landscapes.” TVPlayer was designed and developed by Simplestream using its unique Cloud TV platform (formerly Media Hub). The technology can deliver hundreds of channels through live streaming, automated live-to-VOD and catch-up content across broadcast and OTT platforms within a single workflow. The Cloud TV platform also supports TVPlayer in the collection of in-depth analytics from its expansive database of users, providing significant insight into the viewing behaviour of consumers in the UK. TVPlayer Plus is offered as both a live-and catch-up TV service across web, iOS and android apps, as well as Amazon Fire and Apple TV. The Content Innovation Awards will take place at the Grand Salon in the Carlton Hotel on 16 October 2016 in Cannes.
